This has always been one of my favorite songs. The melody is beautiful and the words are so powerful. After I first learned this song, I felt like I couldn’t properly express those emotions within the original rhythm and chord structure of the song so I tried to write an arrangement that better reflected my personal connection to its meaning. I think the most prominent influences are the brass bands from New Orleans on the rhythm and 60s folk singer songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in the chord structure. Everything else is just me and the band.
